Chinese phone company giant Xiaomi will soon open an office in Brussels.
Xiaomi is the world's fourth-largest smartphone brand and one of the biggest electronics companies in China.
Having recently taken an interest in the European market, the brand established its first Benelux office in The Hague last summer and its success incentivised the company’s expansion to Belgium.
“The development has been so rapid since our arrival that it was no longer possible to run Belgian operations from abroad,” said Michael Cige, Xiaomi manager for Belgium.
The Chinese devices are on sale in Fnac and Vanden Borre, with Xiaomi also working with Base, VOO and Orange operators. The company now wants to accelerate market integration. By April of this year, Xiaomi will have its own offices in Belgium with an initial investment of €250,000. "The office will be in charge of the Belgian and Luxembourg market,” says Cige, who will head up the new venture.
The Belgian headquarters will initially employ a dozen workers. In the longer term, the brand also plans to open a store of its own and to expand its offer with a series of other technologies.
