According to a survey by Eurostat, the Belgians have the happiest people in the European Union.

Is it down to the fries, the chocolate or the beer? Who knows, but this is the conclusion of a study conducted in 2018 in which 76% of Belgian citizens claimed to feel happy all or most of the time. As the official statistics provider to the European Union, Eurostat asked the European population to rate their happiness over a four-week period: happy all the time, most of the time, sometimes, a little, and never.

In joint first position along with Belgium are neighbours The Netherlands as well as Austria and Finland, all reporting happiness from over three quarters of their population. This is in comparison to the European average of 62%.
